Rajat Patidar and Suryakumar Yadav captivated the crowd at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, December 15, as they delivered thrilling performances that entertained the approximately 15,000 spectators gathered for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. Patidar’s explosive innings of 81 not out from just 40 balls, featuring six towering sixes and an equal number of fours, propelled Madhya Pradesh to a total of 174/8.
In response, Suryakumar Yadav contributed significantly with a solid 48 runs off 35 balls, forming a crucial partnership with Ajinkya Rahane. However, it was the dynamic Suryansh Shedge who truly dazzled the audience, smashing an incredible 36 runs off just 15 deliveries, including three fours and three sixes, leading Mumbai to chase down the target in 17.5 overs and clinch their second title.
Mumbai’s innings began with Prithvi Shaw hitting a six over third man, but he quickly fell victim to a delivery from Tripuresh Singh, caught at deep point. Rahane and Shreyas Iyer then took charge, ensuring a fruitful powerplay for their team. Rahane struck two boundaries off Avesh Khan, while Shreyas responded with two fours off Shivam Shukla and a six over long-on off Tripuresh. However, Shreyas’s innings was cut short when he misjudged a wide delivery and was caught at mid-off.
Rahane received a stroke of luck when Patidar failed to hold onto a leading edge, allowing Mumbai to finish the powerplay with a score of 50. Just as Madhya Pradesh seemed to tighten their grip on the game, Suryakumar Yadav ignited a counter-offensive, hitting a pulled four off Kumar Kartikeya, followed by a scooped boundary and a six over long-off against Rahul Batham. Rahane also joined the scoring spree with two fours off Kartikeya, as Mumbai reached 89/2 at the halfway mark of their chase, maintaining the momentum in their favor and secure his win in the match and won the title .
The Mumbai team is all smiles and cheers as they pose for a photo with the trophy. The star packed team put up entertaining and thrilling performances throughout the tournament, but the star performer of the team was the veteran Rahane, who helped the team reach and chase totals that broke records.
