The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that the Indian team will comply with the guidelines set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the Champions Trophy, especially regarding the official logo. The BCCI has confirmed that the Indian jersey will display the official ICC logo, which includes Pakistan’s name.

“We will adhere to the ICC guidelines,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz, aiming to resolve the controversy surrounding the Indian jersey and the Champions Trophy logo. When asked about the inclusion of Pakistan’s name on the official ICC logo, Saikia reiterated, “We will follow the ICC directive.”

Saikia’s statement addresses the concerns raised over India’s objection to the official logo, given that the team will not be traveling to Pakistan. Pakistan is the designated host for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9. However, the Indian team will play their matches in Dubai.

The BCCI secretary has not yet revealed the Board’s stance on whether Rohit Sharma will attend the opening ceremony, which is expected to take place in Karachi, where the inaugural game will be held on February 19. The Indian team has not visited Pakistan for any bilateral or multilateral cricket matches since 2008.

Typically, participating teams adhere to the ICC guidelines during all global events. In fact, the ICC must approve the kit of each competing team. All teams are required to submit their playing and training kits to the ICC for approval. The teams participating in the 2017 Champions Trophy had jerseys that featured both England and Wales, not just England. Meanwhile, the Pakistan players donned shirts for the World Cup 2023 that included the event logo highlighting India. In the logo for the ongoing ICC women’s U19 T20 World Cup, currently taking place in Malaysia, the name of the host is also included. Additionally, all recent ICC media releases showcase a banner for the Champions Trophy that mentions Pakistan.

However, the situation is different in the Asia Cup. In the most recent edition of the Asia Cup (2023), where Pakistan was the official host, the shirts did not display Pakistan’s name on the logo. The tournament, organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), clarified that the policy had changed, and there was no requirement to include the host country’s name.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that it has no information regarding this issue. While the ICC has not made any official comments, it is understood that the governing body has not received any requests from the BCCI concerning this matter or the opening ceremony.
