Jomel Warrican was the standout performer for West Indies on Day 3 of the second Test in Multan, taking five wickets and leading his team to a historic 120-run victory over Pakistan, which leveled the two-match series at 1-1. Warrican accounted for four of the six wickets that fell on Monday as Pakistan crumbled from 76/4 to 133 all out in just over an hour, marking West Indies’ first win in the country in 34 years.
Pakistan required 178 runs to clinch the series, while West Indies started the day with a more achievable target, needing just six wickets to make history. Kevin Sinclair made an immediate impact, taking only three balls to dismiss Saud Shakeel, who edged a leading shot to first slip. Pakistan lost their second wicket of the morning without adding any runs when Warrican bowled nightwatchman Kashif Ali with his second delivery of the day.
The new pair at the crease, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha, attempted to counterattack, briefly putting pressure back on the West Indies spinners. Their partnership of 39 runs ended when Warrican trapped Salman LBW in the very next over, just after the batter had narrowly survived a stumping appeal. Shortly after, Rizwan was bowled, and it became clear that West Indies were closing in on victory.
Noman Ali hit a six off Gudakesh Motie to get off the mark but then offered a simple catch to Warrican at mid-off on the next ball. In the following over, Sajid Khan fell victim to an inside edge that crashed into his stumps, giving Warrican his five-wicket haul and securing a long-awaited victory for West Indies.
Brief scores: West Indies 163 (Gudakesh Motie 55, Jomel Warrican 36*; Noman Ali 6-42) and 244 (Kraigg Brathwaite 52; Sajid Khan 4-76, Noman Ali 4-80) beat Pakistan 154 (Mohammad Rizwan 49; Jomel Warrican 4-43, Gudakesh Motie 3-49) and 133 (Babar Azam 31, Mohammad Rizwan 25; Jomel Warrican 5-27, Kevin Sinclair 3-61) by 120 runs.
