The newly renovated stadiums in Lahore and Karachi are set to host a tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, leading up to the Champions Trophy. Each team will face off against the others once, with the top two teams competing in a final.
The Gaddafi Stadium will kick off the series with the match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 8, followed by a day game between South Africa and New Zealand on February 10. Meanwhile, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi will also host two matches, including the clash between Pakistan and South Africa on February 12 and the final on February 14.
This tournament will act as a precursor to the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19. It also serves as a trial run for the two stadiums that have been upgraded in preparation for the prestigious event. According to a PCB announcement, the Gaddafi Stadium has seen an increase in spectator capacity, with new seating installed throughout the venue.
“Moreover, 480 cutting-edge LED lights have been added to improve broadcast LUX levels, providing a better viewing experience for fans around the globe. To enhance the spectator experience further, two large digital replay screens—measuring 80 feet by 30 feet and 22 feet by 35 feet—have been set up. A new hospitality area for players and officials is nearing completion, ensuring that the iconic stadium is fully equipped to offer an exceptional experience for everyone involved,” the PCB announcement noted.
Significant upgrades have also been made at the Karachi Stadium, including a new hospitality area for players and officials at the University End. “To enhance broadcast quality, 350 LED lights have been installed for optimal visibility for international audiences. Two digital replay screens have already been set up, and 5,000 new seats have been added to improve comfort for spectators,” the announcement added.
